Abstract: The European area of freedom, security and justice represents a fundamental element of the
European Union in response to the long-term global challenges, contributing to the consolidation
and development of the 21st century European social market economy. This area we refer to
guarantees to all citizens of the European Union, including third-country nationals, respect for
fundamental rights enshrined in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
